Timber is a natural product. Like skin, it needs care to stay healthy and to avoid drying out and cracking.

As timber is a natural product it varies from piece to piece. We try to capture the exact tone in our photography, but cannot guarantee an exact match — some pieces may be darker or lighter, within reason and tolerance.

Most timber does not fare well exposed to the elements. Leaving timber furniture outdoors, even undercover, will void your warranty. Ask our staff about our range made for undercover patios.

Timber must be polished and/or waxed to stay healthy. Apply a fine, light, silicone-free furniture oil and polish in the direction of the grain, following the instructions on the label. Never use a polish containing silicone — it will quickly destroy the lacquer. Furniture wax is especially helpful for recycled timber and should be applied every 3 to 6 months.

• Avoid leaving wet cloths or glasses on lacquered surfaces — they break down the lacquer.
• Remove spills immediately with a slightly damp cloth.
• Beware porous objects such as pottery vases standing for long periods — water can seep through unnoticed.
• Timber surfaces are not heat proof. Use heat-resistant coasters and placemats.
• Some hand-thrown ceramic mugs have a base like sandpaper — use a coaster.

• Timber is light sensitive. Keep out of direct sunlight and do not leave decorative items in place for weeks. Open extension tables periodically so the leaf gets regular light.
• Timber is sensitive to humidity. Do not place directly under heating or air-conditioning ducts, or near open fires.
• Timber is rich in natural oils and can rarely mark flooring — if in doubt, place a barrier underneath.
